Competing as Miss Cartersville Teen USA, Samantha Plott is delighted to be participating in the Miss Georgia Teen USA pageant in her hometown.

During the contest, which will be held at Cartersville's Woodland High School Performing Arts Center, the 15-year-old will be able to interact with 55 other contestants from across the state and learn valuable leadership and interviewing skills, while vying for a shot at the crown and numerous prizes. According to Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau's data, Plott is Bartow County's sole representative for the Miss Georgia USA and Miss Georgia Teen USA pageants Thursday to Saturday.

"The teen pageant is a great opportunity," said Plott, the daughter of Michelle Spell of Cartersville and Johnny Plott of Dallas. "It will be a great experience too. I thought it would be really cool if I was to win and I would get to help out with all the great services in the community that they offer. You also get to move on to Miss Teen USA and I know that I would learn a lot through that experience."

A 10th-grader at Cass High School, Plott is a varsity football cheerleader and a member of the art club. She also enjoys playing the guitar and is a student leader at Oak Leaf Church.

If she wins the teen competition, Plott said, "I would definitely like to promote Save the Music, because music is very close to me, and it is an important part. It's a good way to express your feelings. I think it should be in schools."

During the pageants, the contestants will be judged equally in three categories: interview, swimsuit and evening gown. The winner of the Miss Georgia competition will advance to the Miss USA pageant, the precursor to Miss Universe. The Miss Georgia Teen USA winner will compete in the Miss Teen USA pageant.

"I think this is going to be a very unique experience for our contestant," said Regina Wheeler, deputy director for the Cartersville-Bartow County CVB. "I think she will represent our community well and I think she is going to learn great things. It's just going to be an exciting, wonderful time for her."

Wheeler is especially excited that Plott will be able to hear Dale Smith Thomas' motivational presentation.

"Each year that we have participated with hosting these two pageants I've been just so pleased with the quality of the production that is given, both for the audience as well as the contestants," Wheeler said. "One thing that I've always thought is that I wish every teenage girl within Bartow County could come and hear the speaker that comes for our VIP welcome dinner on Thursday night. She is just an incredible motivational speaker. Her name is Dale Smith Thomas.

"Ms. Thomas is a fantastic speaker and just really I think puts every girl in the right frame of mind that they can go out there on the stage and be the best self that they can be. It's all about being very self aware, doing the best that you can do, despite circumstances that you might come from. It's not all about beauty, it's a complete package. It is about being smart. It is about doing your best. It is about being healthy -- all the things that we strive for today. I think that if every girl could hear that, I think it would change lives, I really do."

Seats will cost $30 for the combined pageants' preliminary shows Friday at 7 p.m. The final shows, which will cost $35 each to attend, will be conducted Saturday at 3:30 and 8 p.m. for the Miss Georgia Teen USA and Miss Georgia USA competitions, respectively. Tickets can be obtained at the Performing Arts Center prior to each show or by calling the local CVB at 770-387-1357.
