A man and woman were arrested Friday after a deputy discovered open alcohol containers and stolen electronics in their vehicle.
According to a report from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy located Ashley Elaine Guffey, 30, and Billy Dean Lingerfelt, 45, in a vehicle at a lot in Friendly Lane Mobile Home Park on Mac Johnson Road. The deputy was reportedly suspicious because he knew the residence the vehicle was at had been associated with narcotics usage, and the vehicle was not commonly at the residence. The vehicle’s license plate returned as expired, and the driver, later identified as Guffey, was not wearing a seatbelt.
As the deputy approached the vehicle and began to speak with Guffey, he noticed two open alcohol containers. After asking for the containers, the deputy observed they were still cold to the touch. While he checked Guffey’s and Lingerfelt’s information, the deputy reportedly saw Lingerfelt flee from the vehicle on foot. He pursued Lingerfelt and commanded him to stop, but Lingerfelt fell on his stomach after about 50 yards. The deputy then placed him in handcuffs.
The license plate on the vehicle reportedly returned as stolen, and the deputy placed Guffey under arrest. During a search of the vehicle, the deputy reportedly located multiple stolen electronics, including a tablet stolen from Coconut Creek, Florida.
Guffey was charged with theft by receiving, theft by receiving stolen property from another state, open container, expired registration and adult safety belt requirements. Lingerfelt was charged with theft by receiving, theft by receiving stolen property from another state, misdemeanor obstruction of an officer and open container.
