State and local authorities on Thursday arrested a former Kingston city clerk after a three-year investigation.
Michele Jones was arrested Thursday by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on charges she allegedly took $30,000 from the city of Kingston.
Former Kingston Police Chief Clay Patterson contacted the GBI in 2012 because of issues within the police department.
Patterson, who was chief from June 2012 to April 2013, said his request was unrelated to anything the GBI may have found on Jones.
In 2010, former Kingston city clerk Samantha Silvers was sentenced to four years in prison after being charged with 86 counts of theft by taking totaling more than $62,000.
The investigation is ongoing, but the case is expected to be turned over to the district attorney’s office for prosecution.
