An unauthorized rail rider suffered serious injuries from a fall at Georgia Power’s Plant Bowen Wednesday. Bartow County Emergency Medical Service (BCEMS) spokesman Brad Cothran said the man, who had no affiliation with Georgia Power, CSX Railroad or contractors of either company, was riding in a railroad hopper car, when the coal was released. In the subsequent fall, he suffered two broken femurs and considerable blood loss. The man was airlifted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta, a level one trauma center.

Cartersville police responded Tuesday to a burglary report. Upon arrival, the complainant said she arrived home and found her garage open. The door, she said, led to the garage and a guest room, and she had locked it earlier that morning when she left for work.
While investigating, she discovered a white male with tattoos on his arms and wearing gray gym shorts and no shirt laying on the floor next to the bed. She said she retrieved her gun, returned to the room and woke the man. She said he didn’t not know where he was or how he got there. The complainant ordered the man to leave the house then called 911. The man, Zach Dykema, was soon located and taken into custody.
