The Friends of the Bartow County Library continually comes up with fun ways to raise money for the library system.
The group’s next activity will be a Fundraising Bingo Event Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. — with refreshments being served at 6:30 p.m. — in the Nathan Dean Community Room of the Cartersville Public Library at 429 W. Main St.
“[We] have done bingo twice before, [and it’s] very popular with people attending,” board member Ed Bostick said. "Popular demand causes us — Friends of the Library — to continue this event. [It] has been successful in the past, lots of fun.”
Bostick said the adults-only event is “good publicity for the library,” even though it’s one of the group’s smaller fundraisers.
“This event does not raise as much money as some of our other events — book sales, craft fair — but it’s a lot of fun and brings the local community to the library,” he said.
Cartersville Mayor Matt Santini again will be the “jovial caller” for the games, Bostick said.
Santini called the fundraiser “a fun event that benefits a great cause.”
“I am honored that they have allowed me to be a part of it for the past several years,” he said. “The Friends of the Library is a
dedicated group of volunteers who raise a lot of money and do many great things for the library throughout the year. It is one of the many fun things that I get to do as mayor of our wonderful city.”
Santini is surprised by the competitiveness among the players.
“I am always amazed at how seriously people take playing bingo,” he said. “The games go fast, and we mix in a lot of fun. The prizes are always fantastic, too, thanks to some generous and talented people.”
The six bingo games, which will include a variety of winning configurations, will end with the winners taking home prizes valued at $10 minimum: a $25 Sixes Tavern gift card, a $35 El Nopal gift card, a $30 Johnny Mitchell’s Smokehouse gift card, a $25 Angelo’s gift card, an artisan gourd by Ed Bostick and a $100 Wal-Mart gift card.
“[The] final game for $100 gift card will be ‘cover the board,’” Bostick added.
A drawing also will be held for a decorative wreath.
Bingo cards are available for a donation of $5 each or five for $20. Friends members get their first card free, and memberships will be available at the door.
Bostick, who is expecting 30 to 40 people but “hoping for more,” said the group has “no specific monetary goal” for the event.
“This event is especially important in establishing good will for the library,” he said, noting all funds raised by FOL are used to purchase books and other media for the library.
