Man arrested in home invasion
A 28-year-old was arrested Friday in a home invasion that occurred last week.
Cartersville Police Department investigators on Friday arrested Michael Cornelius Chairs in connection with an Oct. 20 home invasion. During the incident, Chairs forcefully entered a residence and a physical altercation ensued.
During the altercation, Chairs pointed a firearm at several occupants in the residence and struck one victim multiple times with the weapon. Chairs was quickly identified and warrants were issued for Chairs’ arrest. Once the arrest warrants were obtained, officers from CPD, Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force and members of the U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force began an exhaustive search, which led to Chairs’ arrest at a residence at 26 Ember Way, Cartersville.
During a subsequent search of the residence, officers recovered a .9mm handgun, which is believed to be the weapon used in this assault.
Chairs was arrested without incident and charged with home invasion, two counts of aggravated assault, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
