City receives $1.8 million grant

The Cartersville Bartow Airport Authority will receive $1.8 million in funding assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for construction around the airport, the city council learned Thursday night. The grant will help pay for a storm drainage system and a bridge to accommodate the Old Alabama Road realignment. The grant, which is eligible for a $100,000 match from the state, must also be matched locally with another $100,000.

For several years, Leah Chitwood, a personnel recruiter, spent her lunch breaks peering in the windows of some of Atlanta’s trendiest boutiques. One day, she decided it was time to bring her fashion ideas home to Cartersville. Along with her husband, Michael, Love June Boutique was created.
