Woodland opened region soccer play with a 2-1 victory at home Tuesday night.
Keeper Kurt Moore had 21 saves against Hiram in a game played at Wildcat Stadium.
Ivan Pineda scored one of the Wildcats’ goals on an assist from Anthony DiFillipo. The other goal was earned by DiFillipo who scored on an assist by Will Broome.
Hiram's goalie, Paulo Condori, had eight saves on the night and their only goal was shot by Geovanny Trejo.
Cass 4, Cedartown 0
Two was the lucky number for the Cass Colonels in their 4-0 win over Cedartown in a soccer match played on a very muddy field Tuesday.
The shutout was goalie Andy Brock’s second of the season, Cody West registered two assists an two of the Colonels’ goals were scored by freshman Alex Martinez.
“Alex scored the first goal and the last goal for us,” said Frank Kunf, the Colonels’ boys varsity soccer coach.
Other goal scorers for Cass included Jovany Fernandez and Jack Zehler.
With the win, Cass improves to 3-0-1 on the young season.
A young season that has seen the Colonels shut out Cartersville, 2-0, and Cedartown.
“So far, we have been playing well,” said Kunf as headed back to the high school.
