According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Jeremy Battle, the driver of a dump truck was traveling northbound on Interstate 75 at mile marker 305 in Adairsville about 2:30 p.m. when the front driver’s side tire blew out. The driver lost control of the vehicle, sending it over the median. The truck overturned, ejecting the driver.
Battle said the driver was airlifted to Erlanger in Chattanooga, Tenn., in critical condition.
According to reports, it is possible the man suffered a partial amputation of a limb. Battle could not confirm that.
Lanes on I-75 were closed in varying stages as life flight landed and clean-up was completed. Final emergency personnel left the scene about 6 p.m.
Battle said the man was from Cartersville and the truck was from a local business. GSP later identified the man as Jackie Heath Hampton.
GSP Public Information Officer Gordy Wright said no additional information was available.
