After a contentious meeting in February, the Euharlee City Council approved several lingering resolutions — the adoption of international building codes, purchasing policy procedures and an event planning policy — while a proposed revamped organizational chart, and outsourced landscaping and grant writing proposals failed to win approval.

At the February work session, Mayor Dennis Thayer proposed a revised organization chart requiring department heads to report to the city manager, something council members Steve Worthington and Joseph “Jo-Jo” Turner opposed.

“I realize this thing is ultimately going to be passed,” Turner said. “As I understand, we have asked the city manager to create a policy that would regulate how the employees can voice themselves. I hate to put the employees in a position that we pass something that restricts them. Can we have further debate on this?”

Council member Craig Guyton made a motion that the chart be accepted as a draft to be discussed in the next work session and voted on in the next meeting. Council approved the motion unanimously.

In other business, the council tabled discussion of improvements to Five Forks Road, something Turner vehemently opposes.

The Euharlee City Council will hold a work session on March 18 at 7 p.m.
