According to the incident report, the victim had left work at 10 p.m. walking down Gilmer Street. The man said when he reached the Church Street underpass, he heard a group of people approaching him.
The victim said a suspect stuck a large handgun, possibly a .9mm, to the back of his head and ordered him to “empty your pockets.” According to the victim, he raised his hands and they suspect searched his pockets, finding only a cellphone, which the suspect released. The suspect then struck the man in the back of the head, causing him to fall forward and be able to escape.
There were three suspects, all roughly 6 feet tall, wearing dark clothing with red bandannas over their faces, the victim said.
A search of the area did not locate the suspects. The victim suffered no visible injuries and declined treatment.
