Cass loses close one

Despite Bethany Ballard’s 2-run, first-inning home run, the Cass Lady Colonels could not hold on to the lead and lost to Cedartown, 3-2, on senior night.

Ballard’s homer followed Allison Story’s single.

“That was the extent of our scoring,” Cass coach Greg Hight said.

Cedartown tied the game with two runs in the fourth inning, before taking the lead with a single run in the fifth.

Cass starting pitcher Courtney Bailey gave up 3 runs on five hits, while striking out 12. Kiayana Farmer had two hits for the Lady Colonels.

Lady Tigers fall

In volleyball, the Adairsville Lady Tigers fell to 11-8 overall following straight-set losses to Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe and Sonoraville.

Against LFO, the Lady Tigers lost, 25-7, 25-22. The Phoenix prevailed, winning 25-12 and 25-5.
