Cass evens region record with 7-1 defeat of Pickens

Cass flexed its offensive muscles while evening its region record with a 7-1 victory over Pickens County at the school Wednesday.

The Lady Colonels scored in the bottom of the first as Allison Story reached with a leadoff hit, moved to second on a single by Ashlynn Russell and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Bethany Ballard. Story crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly by Breanna Mahrt.

In the bottom of the second, Courtney Bailey scored the Lady Colonels’ second run on a double-steal, as Camey Kirkland made a move toward second while Bailey went home from third on the designed play. Bailey had reached base on a two-out double then moved to third on the single by Kirkland.

In the third, Ballard, who reached on an error, advanced to second and then scored when Hannah Kirkland hit a two-out double to put Cass up 3-0.

Pickens scored its run in the fourth.
