The Lady Tigers were turnover-prone early, as they took one shot the first time they got the ball, but then were forced into turnovers and did not get a shot on goal the next seven series, a time during which Darlington ripped off 15 straight points.
Lady Tiger Coach Meredith Barnhill called a timeout with 4:40 remaining in the first frame and calmed the Lady Tigers down from that point. They began taking better care of the ball from that point; however, it took the rest of the quarter and two and a half minutes of the second period before Julia Roberson found only net with a 3-pointer to put Adairsville on the scoreboard. Her shot made the scoreboard read 30-3 in favor of Darlington.
The Lady Tigers added five more points by the time the halftime horn sounded and they trailed 38-8 at the midway point of the game.
Adairsville continued to play tougher against Darlington in the third and fourth quarters. It was outscored 15-10 in the third frame — ending the period down 53-18, and 7-5 in the final frame.
Scoring for Adairsville were Roberson, 9 points; Mallorie Collum, 4; Paige Cole, 4; and Stephanie Kuhrt, Kelsy Hice and Logan O’Neal, 2 each.
The Lady Tigers are 4-6 overall and 0-3 in Region 5-AAA. They return to the hardwood today and will play at 4 p.m. at the holiday festival.
