A Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputy was called to the Cartersville Medical Center’s emergency room Tuesday afternoon in reference to an assault. The victim said he was sitting on his sister’s porch Monday afternoon when his niece’s estranged husband assaulted him.

Robert George Henderson Jr. was drunk when he appeared at his wife’s home in White, the victim said. Henderson asked if the victim knew who he was, and the victim replied that Henderson was his nephew. According to the police report, that was when Henderson “went off” and screamed “get out of my face.”

The victim said he was attacked “for no reason.” Henderson allegedly struck him around the face and pushed him. When the victim fell down, Henderson got on top of him and began choking him. Then, according to the report, Henderson kissed the victim on the mouth and said, “This is the kiss of death.”

After that Henderson left in an unknown vehicle.

The deputy saw noticeable swelling around the victim’s left cheek and eye, which did not have the same color as the rest of his face. There were also dark purple “knuckle marks” on the right side of his chest below the shoulder.

During questioning, the victim said Henderson’s marriage was not going well and the couple was separated. Henderson’s wife lives with the victim.

The deputy located Henderson to question him, and he was evasive in his answers. He said that he was standing over the victim even though he admitted there had been an altercation. There were no obvious marks or scars on Henderson from the incident.

Henderson was arrested for battery and transported to the Bartow County Jail without incident.
