The first day of qualifying for the Adairsville special mayoral election produced two candidates.

City Clerk Nicole Scoggins said Adena Harper and Kenneth “K.C.” Carson filed to run for the post vacated by former Mayor Evan King earlier this month.

Carson is an Adairsville businessman who ran for the Ward 3 city council post in November, losing to Lee Castro in a runoff.

Harper, a Mary Kay consultant, is the wife of Bartow School Superintendent John Harper. She currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce.

Qualifying for the special election runs through noon on Wednesday at the depot.
