Keylon Woodard, Kelin Wells, Chaz Rokins, Justin Reed, Montavius Parker, Lakel Scott, Joe Wood, Drake Eddy and Lucas Johnson will be playing in the Georgia Northwest All Star Bowl on Dec. 21 at McEachern High School. Kickoff is at 10 a.m.
“Having nine players selected is an honor for Cass High and for our players,” Cass head coach Rick Casko said. “It is recognition for their quality of play in a tough region as well as in our nonregion games.”
He said the game will precede the Cobb All Star Senior Bowl, which features all-star players from that county’s 21 high schools and is in its seventh season.
The Georgia Northwest All Star Bowl features players from 19 high schools in Cherokee, Bartow, Douglas and Paulding County. The games are being billed as a power-packed double-header event.
The event is a weeklong “Super Bowl” format, with a kickoff mini camp, a special needs outing, a game-day banquet, and Game Day with over 5,000 spectators.
College coaches attend to recruit, and the event is covered by metro Atlanta news organizations, plus TV and Internet media companies.
The players serve at the Holiday For Hope Atlanta Christmas party, host a Special Needs Buddy Bowling event, and hear from motivational speakers, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and local sports figures.
The Bartow all-stars will be combined with all-star players from Cherokee County to play all-stars from Paulding and Douglas counties. Teams begin practice Dec. 14.
Casko said the all-stars are getting a chance to showcase their talents with others who also are top level players for fans as well as for college coaches.
“It’s also exciting for our players to be going with so many of their teammates,” he said.
The Cass players selected have been the top performers for the Colonels the past several years.
Among the Colonels chosen were Woodard, who had six interceptions this past season; Wells, two interceptions while recovering two fumbles; Rokins, who scored seven touchdowns; Reed, 46 tackles; Parker, 49 tackles; Scott, 49 tackles, and Eddy, 46 pancakes.
