An Adairsville High School senior lost his life Friday evening in an accidental shooting incident.

Sheriff Clark Millsap said deputies arrived and found 18-year-old Austin Harriss with a gunshot wound. Harriss was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.

Investigators believe the shooting, which happened around 8 p.m. near Adairsville, was accidental.

According to his Facebook profile, Harriss was a senior at Adairsville High School and enjoyed soccer. Many of his classmates, friends, and family members posted memories, pictures, and last messages to honor him.

"R.I.P. Austin Harriss," one friend wrote online. "Class of 2012 will never be the same without you."

A prayer vigil is scheduled for Harriss at Adairsville High School today at 7 p.m. on the AHS soccer field. Single flowers can be placed at the soccer goal. If rain occurs, the vigil will move into the AHS auditorium.

"Our hearts, our thoughts, and our prayers go out to Austin's family and all of his friends," said AHS Principal Bruce Mulkey. "It's going to be a real emotional time for our school and our community -- our focus from here on is going to be to make sure that our students and his family get the support they need."
