The Tigers used a strong first quarter to defeat Sonoraville, 61-48, Wednesday night on the Phoenix’s home court.
“It was nice to see our team play like they did,” Adairsville coach Kent Howard said.
With the victory, the Tigers (10-15) advanced to the second round of the region tournament where they will play North Murray tonight. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
“This is the time of the season where you win, survive and advance,” Howard said. “That’s what we did against Sonoraville.”
During the regular season, the Tigers beat the Phoenix (4-21) twice and lost to the Mountaineers twice. North Murray won by scores of 70-43 and 75-49.
New Manchester 76, Woodland 57
At halftime there was a glimmer of hope that Woodland would see its season extended by at least one more game.
The Wildcats (11-13) were leading by two at halftime and their leading scorer, Greg Murphy, was nothing short of unstoppable when it came to scoring.
Unfortunately, there was another half to be played in the Region 5-AAAAA tournament game played Wednesday night at Allatoona High School.
“We hung in there for as long as we could,” said first year coach John Howard after New Manchester defeated his Wildcats, 76-57.
