Adairsville played two area powers in volleyball Tuesday night and took two tough losses.

Still, head coach Dave Adams said the matches against Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe and Sonoraville should help the Lady Tigers in the upcoming Bartow County Volleyball Tournament and their area tournament that follows.

The Lady Tigers fell to LFO 18-25, 29-27 and 20-25. They lost to Sonoraville 25-12 and 25-13.

Coach Adams noted LFO fell to Adairsville earlier.

“This time they were ready for us, but it was still a great night of volleyball,” he said.

He said LFO laid the foundation for its victory with its serving, particularly in the third match.

“We got our groove back after the first match,” he said. “We were fighting and clawing, but they came out and got the win.”

He said LFO got the contest that counted on their area record.

Adams credited Adairsville’s close loss to the performances of several players.

“Amber Litteral, our middle hitter, had 15 kills and two blocks,” he said. “She was just on fire tonight.

“We got a lot of great defense out of Kelsy Hice and Erin Atkins, our libero, who was just outstanding.”

He also praised the work of Sydney Sumners, their outside hitter. “Those three had more digs than Indiana Jones.”

Adams said Sonoraville was a tough matchup for his team.

“The Phoenix are the class of the region and, boy, they are good,” he said. “The thing about them is, if you send it over the net, they are going to hit it back.”

The losses dropped Adairsville to 3-4 in the area. The Lady Tigers are 18-7 overall.

They next play on Thursday when they visit Armuchee and also take on Rome.

Cartersville picked up a victory over area team Fannin County in three straight sets at home by scores 25-16, 25-19, 25-16.

Sarah Garner contributed with 16 attacks and 5 kills, while Asia Murray had 20 attacks and 9 kills.
