Judge David Smith's courtroom heard several pleas Monday as the first wave of criminal trials began for March.

According to Assistant District Attorney Jana Allen, Ivory Alonzo Brooks plead guilty to robbery by threat in relation to an Oct. 18, 2011 incident where he passed a demand note to a teller at the United Community Bank in Cartersville. The note demanded all $20s and $100s with no dye packs and alleged that he was armed with a gun. Brooks received a sentence of 20 years, to serve 10 in prison.

Also in Judge D. Smith's courtroom, Abron Browning requested to have his case continued so that he may review documents concerning his case with his lawyer and decide which direction to take in the future. Browning faces a charge of criminal attempt to commit arson.

Allen also said that one burglary case was dismissed after the noon lunch break when new evidence emerged from the defense.

The second set of criminal trials will begin Monday, March 26. Priority cases are expected to be released from the District Attorney's office later this week to detail which cases the judges are anticipating to hear in their courts.
