Caregivers steal from patient
Caregivers are suspected of stealing approximately $12,000 in cash and $7,900 from a stroke victim. Thursday, a police report was filed by the victim's son, who had previously spoken to an investigator on the issue. The man stated that his mother had a stroke and requires assistants to help care for her. One of the assistants has been in and out of jail recently. The caregiver has been seen driving the victim's vehicle by a neighbor for several months and two male friends of the suspect have entered the residence and stolen things from the home, according to the victim. The woman's son says that he is unaware of any weapons that could have been taken as his mother described, and it is unknown how much of anything has been stolen.
Wallet stolen while woman offers help
A Crowe Springs resident was suddenly the victim of theft when she tried to help an unknown woman who appeared to be upset and lost. The woman stated that the suspect entered her residence so that they could print directions to where she was traveling from the victim's computer. When they were leaving the computer room, the suspect grabbed the victim's wallet purse from a table and ran out the door. The victim attempted to chase the suspect, who entered an unidentified vehicle and fled at a high rate of speed and a tag number was not obtained. The suspect was described as wearing a pastel colored shirt and was approximately 5'5'' and 100 pounds with medium length blonde hair.
Possible theft suspect caught at utility substation
Two men suspected of theft were found in the area of a utility pole substation off Highway 293. According to a Bartow deputy's report, a dark-in-color Mazda pick-up truck was parked at the station and no one was observed around the vehicle. After pulling onto the dirt access road, a white male was seen standing next to a pile of cut phone lines. He then fled up a dirt bank and into the woods. While deputies searched the area, the vehicle attempted to flee the area and was later stopped on Highway 411. The driver, identified as David Dover, stated that he was parked at the station because he "ran out of gas and started walking when someone picked him up and gave him some gas." An investigator was called to the scene and warrants were obtained for criminal attempt to commit theft.
