Bartow County's Rucker wins DYW competition

Bartow County’s Brooke Rucker was named the Distinguished Young Woman Saturday in Mobile, Ala. Rucker was presented with a cash scholarship of $50,000 at the conclusion of the 57th Distinguished Young Women National Finals.

Rucker earned scholarship awards in the talent and self-expression categories. She also received the overall interview and fitness awards. Rucker was awarded a total of $7,000 in additional cas h scholarships.

The 18-year-old Rucker, a 2014 graduate of Woodland High School, competed in the areas of fitness, scholastics, self-expression, talent and interview. Brooke is the daughter of Donald and Tanya Rucker of Cartersville. Her activities include Wildcats for Kids, student council and participation in the Woodland High School chorus, dance and theater departments.

An outstanding student, Brooke was recognized as a county Academic Superstar and has also received departmental awards for Accelerated Math 1 and Theater. Brooke served as the dance captain for Cartersville’s Artistic Talent Showcase, treasurer of the National Honor Society and president of the Thespian Society.
