The honorees are Diana Wimpy, Woodland; Lindsay Anderson, Cartersville; Silken Solomon, Cass; and Tia Hicks, Adairsville.
The four student-athletes and their counterparts from Cherokee, Paulding, Cobb and Douglas counties, represent every sport from basketball to golf, cheerleading and swimming, softball and soccer.
Diana Wimpy
Wimpy has long been one of Woodland High's star players in softball and track and field.
She's a state champion discuss thrower and is the Lady Wildcats' all-time career home run leader with 19, putting her in a three-way tie for fourth on the state's career list. During her senior year, she hit .577 with 49 RBIs, 12 home runs, 39 runs, 56 hits, five triples and 13 doubles.
Wimpy said the award means a lot to her.
"For me to even be nominated is an honor," she said. "I've had so many things to come at once."
Wimpy said the honors have meant even more to her because she has put so much work into sports largely because of her late brother.
"I used to look at his awards (in baseball) when I was young, and I wanted to be just like him," she said.
Wimpy said sports has shaped who she is today.
"It's changed who I am," she said. "It's taught me to set goals. You compare athletics to your home life, your school life and in many other different ways."
She said her success in athletics also has changed how others see her.
"If I wasn't involved in sports, I don't think I would be as known," she added. "It gives you a lot of attention. It's made me known and the person I am today."
Lindsay Anderson
Anderson is a two-sport star at Cartersville High.
She played forward/midfield for the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes and is on the school's cross country team.
The Purple Hurricane was named to the all county soccer team three years and was the 2010 Bartow County Player of the Year. She plays A level soccer on Georgia select teams.
She is a three-time MVP for the high school cross country team.
Anderson expressed appreciation for her selection.
"It feels good," she said, "I am honored to represent Cartersville."
She said the award also is the result of a lot of hard work that she has put into athletics through the years.
"It's good seeing all that pay off," she said.
Silken Solomon
Cass High's Solomon is a starter for her school's volleyball and basketball teams.
She is a middle blocker and outside hitter on the volleyball team and a shooting guard and point guard for the Lady Colonels, although she also has played small forward at times.
"It's a big honor for me," Solomon said. "We really have great athletes and [getting] the award caught me off guard. I was just happy to be put in the category to receive this big an award."
Tia Hicks
Hicks is a star softball and basketball player at Adairsville.
Meghan Johnson, her softball coach, said she is a good athlete who also has distinguished herself in other areas.
"She's an officer in the JROTC," Johnson said. "She's one of the officers in the FCA. She just has a lot of different things that [she is involved in].
"She's definitely the person in the student body that we wanted to represent us at the Bobbie Bailey Awards."
Tonight's event
The ceremony highlights the accomplishments of local high school female athletes as chosen by their respective schools.
The awards were named for Dr. M. Bobbie Bailey, a longtime friend and benefactor of Kennesaw State University academics and athletics.
Guest speaker is Molly Fletcher of Atlanta.
Fletcher served as the president of client representation at Atlanta-based Career Sports and Entertainment from 1996 until 2010, when she became president and CEO of MWF Enterprises.
