Due to a serious shortage of blood donations, Blood Assurance is currently seeking blood donors of all blood types.

As the only blood bank providing blood to more than 50 area hospitals, Blood Assurance needs an estimated 400 donors to meet the needs of local patients.

Officials at Blood Assurance say that between 12 locations and 10 bloodmobiles throughout 32 counties, the number of units collected per day this week has been between 300 and 325.

"We do not make a critical appeal to the community without serious consideration, but at this point we do not have a choice," said Linda Hisey, vice-president of marketing and public relations. "We have not fully recovered from the inclimate weather of the past months."

The Blood Assurance Cartersville Donation Center is located at 921 Joe Frank Harris Parkway in the Goodwill shopping center. To find Blood Assurance locations, visit www.bloodassurance.org/locations.

All donors will receive a complimentary snack and t-shirt. Visitors at any Blood Assurance location or blood drive will also be eligible to register for the monthly promotion.
