The body of a man reported missing Sunday in Cartersville was pulled from Lake Allatoona early Tuesday morning.

Danny Redding, 54, was reported missing to Cartersville police on Sunday after Redding left money for his wife about 8:30 a.m. and left. He then sent her a text stating he was going to the dam to kill himself, according to a Bartow County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

BCSO filed the missing persons report on Redding Monday morning after he had been missing for 24 hours.

Redding’s wife said she located his truck at Gatewood Park, 244 Bartow Beach Road, and deputies who checked the area Sunday were not able to locate Redding.

The responding deputy located Redding’s truck on Monday still parked at the picnic area of Gatewood Park but did not locate Redding at that time.

Bartow County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said deputies and Department of Natural Resources officers had searched the area of Gatewood Park and along the shore of the lake since Sunday.

Redding’s family coordinated a search for the early hours of Tuesday. They discovered his body in shallow water along the bank.

Rogers said there was no sign of foul play, but an autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death.
