Cartersville’s Corey Tobin and Ryan Davis have joined an elite group of 10 basketball players who have been named to the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s Class AAA North’s all-state basketball team.

Other players named to this prestigious basketball team were Nick Harris, St. Pius X; Tookie Brown, Morgan County; Kyle Doyle, Buford; Trey Williams, Woodward Academy; Tyler Dominy, Dawson County; Solomon Mangham, Woodward Academy; Isaiah Williams, Buford. Player of the Year was North Hall’s Ethan Smith.

“I am extremely proud of Corey and Ryan for being recognized for this high honor by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA),” Canes coach Mike Tobin said.

“Achieving this honor is a direct result of the two spending hours upon hours in the gym, working on improving their game and perfecting our system. They could be selfish and score more than 20 per game, but they opt to be team players who want to contribute to the success our basketball program.”

The Canes’ men’s basketball program enjoyed tremendous success this past season. They held the No. 1 ranking in Class AAA statewide and remained undefeated until the final regular season game.

With Corey Tobin and Davis, both juniors and both guards, leading the way, Cartersville advanced to the second round of the state Class AAA playoffs where they lost to St. Pius X.

Corey Tobin finished the 2012-2013 season averaging 14.2 points per game, dishing out 4.7 assists, making 84 percent of his free throws and making 83, 3-point baskets.

Davis closed out the season averaging 17.4 points per game and 5.6 assists. Both Canes were named to numerous all-county and all-tournament teams.

Currently, the two are playing on elite AAU basketball teams and have already been contacted by several college basketball programs. Corey Tobin is playing for the AAU’s Atlanta All-Stars, while Davis is playing for the AAU’s Aim High basketball team.
