Make it five straight for the Cartersville Lady Purple Hurricanes with their 2-0 victory over the Sonoraville Phoenix Thursday.

The Canes (4-4, 8-7) pushed across single runs in the top of the first and fourth innings, while starting pitcher Annalyn Yantis struck out 10 and gave up only three hits for the win.

Hunter Irvin led off the game with a single before advancing to second on a sacrifice by Kailah Rain, and then to third on a fly ball by Annie Holsomback.

It was 1-0 Cartersville when Irvin scored on a Sonoraville (4-5, 8-8-1) throwing error.

In the fourth, back-to-back singles by Mallory Jackson and Yantis placed runners on first and second.

After Maddie Geiger’s sacrifice bunt moved both runners up a base, Jackson stole home following an ill-advised pick off throw by Sonoraville.

With the win the Canes move in to sole possession of first place in Region 5B-AAA.
