The Purple Hurricanes (16-3, 15-1 in Region 7-AAA) notched their third win in a row with the game, which was shortened to three innings due to the mercy rule.
Gilmer (9-8-1 and 9-7 in the region) scored its only run in the top of the third.
Ben Venters got the big blow in the game with a two-run triple, one of 12 hits tallied by the home team.
Pounding out RBI singles in the contest were Zach Ross, Corey Collum, Michael Goss, Harris Battle, Luke Daniel and Tyler Will. The balance of the Cane scoring came via walks and wild pitches.
Sam Howard pitched the first inning, tallying two strikeouts and giving up no runs or hits. Drew Flatford pitched the second inning, allowing no hits and runs.
Hunter Horton surrendered a run in the third on a sacrifice fly. Horton also mowed down one of the Bobcat runners who took too big a lead off second.
The Canes had tried to start the game Friday night but the weather did not cooperate, and the contest was started at 11 a.m. Saturday.
With the victory the Canes should maintain their current No. 5 in the state coaches poll. They are one of three teams in their region with a single region loss this late in the season.
The other teams are Ringgold, which is ranked No. 2 in the GACA poll with a 17-1 record, and Allatoona, ranked No. 6 with a 17-2 record.
Cartersville visits Heritage, Catoosa, on Monday. Game time is at 5:55 p.m.
