It certainly hasn’t hurt the team’s winning ways as the Purple Hurricanes joined their girls counterparts in blanking their tennis foes Wednesday on the road, as both teams recorded 5-0 victories against Sonoraville.
Head coach Melissa Moore said she picked up Corey Tobin from basketball and moved him to the singles No. 1 line and then made other changes that likely will remain in force through the rest of the season.
“We’ve solidified our doubles teams and they are beginning to work together more,” she said. “We haven’t had a lot of time practicing together but it is satisfying seeing them develop their patterns of playing together.”
In boys play, Tobin won 6-2, 6-2 at the singles No. 1 line; Matthew Scott recorded a 6-4, 7-6 victory at the singles No. 2 line; while at the singles No. 3 line Drew Adsit won 6-2, 6-1.
At the doubles No. 1 line Avery Andrews and Nathan Slocum were victorious 6-0, 6-1 while at doubles No. 2 Adam Harper and Christian O’Dell won their match 6-3, 2-6, 10-7.
In girls play, at the singles No. 1 position, Mallory Walker won 6-1, 6-0, at the singles No. 2 line, Maddi McGinnis won 6-0, 6-1 and at singles No. 3, Kenly King was victorious 6-0, 6-0.
At the doubles No. 1 line, Annabeth and Charleston Fox won 6-0, 6-0 while at doubles No. 2 Haley Landrum and Kendyl Westmoreland took 6-1, 6-0 wins.
The boys improved to 7-2 overall while the girls are 9-0.
The two teams take on Coahulla Creek on Tuesday around 4:30 p.m.
