Coming off a lopsided victory over the Rome Wolves Saturday, the Canes (2-0, 1-0) had little trouble defeating the Ringgold Tigers, 75-35, Thursday night at the Storm Center. The final three quarters turned into a formality, as the Canes opened a 21-11 first quarter lead. Originally scheduled for Friday, the basketball game was moved back a day to accommodate tonight’s state playoff football game at Weinman Stadium.
Getting to the Thursday night’s game proved to be somewhat difficult as streets were blocked off and the entire city of Cartersville turned out for its annual holiday parade that began at sunset.
“It was a good night to play basketball,” Canes coach Mike Tobin said. “I was most pleased with how unselfish we were with the basketball. “
Nine of the 10 Cartersville players who dressed out scored — three of which finished in double figures.
The Canes’ Ryan Davis led everybody in scoring with 23 points. Corey Tobin was next with 11 points, followed by A.J. Mosby’s 10 points. Ringgold’s Zach Dean scored 10 in a losing effort.
“I think what also helped us was that we had an extra day or two to rest, while Ringgold had a game on Tuesday,” coach Tobin said.
