Carey Benjamin Hames, 86, of Taylorsville, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011.

Mr. Hames was born March 21, 1924 in Bartow County, a son of the late Pressley Harrison Hames and Bessie Dover Hames.

He was an Army veteran of World War Two, serving in the 7th Calvary Division, member of the Bethel Cross Roads Baptist Church and was retired from Union Carbide.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mary Lou Williams Hames, children and their spouses, Karen Nalli, of Euharlee, Linda and Lamar Cantrell, of Taylorsville, Brenda Cline, of Cartersville, Wayne and Elaine Hames, of Cleveland, Tennessee, Donnie and Lena Hames, of Sylacauga, Alabama, Glenn and Tammy Hames, of Acworth and Susan and Terry Williams, of Adairsville, 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Janie Miller, of Kingston, Frances Chapman, of Leesburg, Ga., Horace Hames, of Cartersville and Annie Ledbetter, of Cedartown.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, from the Bethel Cross Roads Baptist Church, near Taylorsville, with Rev. Charles Garrett and Rev. Danny Roberson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery, with military rites observed.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 until 8 p.m. Saturday and the body will lie in state at the church from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
