Skylar Brooke Smith, a girl, was born Sunday at 1:49 p.m., making her grand entrance with the title of first baby born at the Cartersville Medical Center for 2012. Weighing in at 6 pounds, 2 ounces, and measuring 18 1/2 inches, Skylar was welcomed by her parents, Amanda and Bobby Smith, of Euharlee, and her three siblings, 4-year-old brother Joseph, 2-year-old sister Jasmaine and 1-year-old sister Maddison. Certified Nurse Midwife Kim Millsap performed the delivery.

CMC delivered more than 875 babies in 2011 and family-centered care is at the heart of the center's "Special Beginnings" maternity services to ensure patients and families feel comfortable and safe during their stays.

To celebrate the first baby's arrival, the maternity staff and CMC gift shop provided gifts along with a gift from First Step. The unit also provided a steak dinner for the parents.
