Osborne told the council that by amending the URP to include the Cass-White Road area, companies may be able to obtain increased job tax credits for new full-time hiring.
“The Northwest Georgia Regional Commission is preparing a URP for Bartow,” Osborne said. “If approved by Commissioner Steve Taylor, city staff would work cooperatively with Bartow County representatives to apply for a joint city-county opportunity zone.”
Osborne said that no action could be taken until the October meeting which will be a legally-advertised public hearing.”
Planning director Randy Mannino told council about an application from Consolidated Holdings, Inc. of Madison, Ga., to change the zoning for nearly 34 acres of land east of Interstate 75 at Overlook Parkway. Consolidated asked that the land be changed from office commercial (OC) to general commercial (GC). The zoning change would allow potential investors to locate businesses like hotels or restaurants, especially in light of burgeoning growth two exits south in Emerson.
