Cartersville falls to Carrollton

Cartersville's high school tennis teams already have played a perennial powerhouse and a 5-AAAAA school this season, with only modest results.

The girls team defeated Wheeler, 5-0, and lost to Carrollton, 4-1. The boys team lost to Wheeler, 4-1, and Carrollton, 3-2.

Winning against Wheeler were Lady Canes Maggie Dowling, who defeated Trisha Ramakrishman, 6-1, 6-0; Logan Bolen, who bested Stephanie Slocum, 6-7, 6-4, 10-5; Maddie McGinnis, who topped Elizabeth Blakely, 6-2, 6-4; and Megan Patton/Mallory Walker, who defeated Emily Moore/Emily Blakely, 6-0, 6-3; and Sarah Vaughan/Annalyn Smith, who won over Swathi Kuman/Sarah Parker, 6-3, 6-2.

Winning against Carrollton was Dowling, who outplayed Rebecca Buchanon, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Winning for the boys team against Wheeler were Trevor Gotkowski, who defeated Zack Fenster, 6-2, 6-1.

Winning against Carrollton were Gotkowski, who bested Garrett Brown, 6-4, 6-3; and Brock Hufstetler, who got past J.T. Grillo, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2.
