Cartersville police make arrest in armed carjacking

Cartersville police have arrested a man involved in a carjacking and robbery Tuesday morning in the parking lot of the Kangaroo convenience store at 898 Joe Frank Harris Parkway.

According to CPD, the victim exited the store and got into his vehicle when the suspect, identified as Pacino Porter, 36, of Cartersville, got into the vehicle with what appeared to be a gun concealed under clothing and ordered the victim to drive.

The victim drove to his Acworth residence and Porter allegedly took the vehicle and left. A traffic stop was conducted on Porter in Emerson, where he was arrested.

Porter is in custody at the Bartow County Jail with several charges pending, including armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle, kidnapping an adult, theft and simple assault.

The investigation is ongoing.

Cartersville man involved in Gordon train accident

A Cartersville man was transported to Floyd Medical Center Monday following an accident involving a train Monday.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Fred Lewis White, 57, of Cartersville pulled across the tracks on Covington Bridge in Gordon County and the train struck the back portion of the truck. White was taken by ground to the Rome hospital for treatment.

White was charged with failure to stop at a stop sign.
