Both the Cartersville boys and girls soccer teams picked up shutout victories in each team’s season opener Thursday at home against Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe.

Cartersville boys 5, LFO 0

The Canes were able to start their region schedule off on a high note as they scored four times in the last 42 minutes of the game to run away from the Warriors.

“It was a good win and a good way to start region play,” Cartersville head coach D.J. Paradis said. “We’re a fairly young team, seven freshmen, and it was good to get a region win for our confidence heading into next week with two teams that made the state tournament, Coahulla Creek and Sonoraville.”

Daniel Keeney got Cartersville off to a fast start with his goal six minutes into the game.

Pedro Rodelebo then added a second goal with two minutes remaining in the first half.

However, Cartersville specifically started to pour it on LFO when Zach Edwards scored 15 minutes into the second half, followed by Cesar Abeja’s goal five minutes later.

The final goal came from Ross Pafley who put the ball in the back of the net in the 70th minute to complete Cartersville’s impressive victory.

Cartersville was able to empty its bench and give some of the younger players experience that should come in handy as the season progresses.

Cartersville girls 4, LFO 0

The Cartersville girls soccer team opened up its season with a victory Thursday at home as the Lady Canes defeated LFO by a score of 4-0.

Cartersville jumped on LFO early when Ashton Sanders scored the first goal of the game with 22:11 remaining in the first half.

After a handball by LFO gave Cartersville a penalty-kick opportunity at the 19:31 mark, Sanders scored on the free kick to put the Lady Canes up by a score of 2-0.

Sydney Miller then added a goal with less than four minutes remaining in the half to give Cartersville a comfortable lead heading into the break.

Chloe Davis added the exclamation mark in the 45th minute and Cartersville cruised to victory.
