Cass moved above .500 in its overall record with a comfortable 7-4 victory over Sprayberry (1-4) on Wednesday.

The lead seesawed between the two teams until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Sprayberry tied the score at 4-all.

Haley Hood ended the tie for Cass (7-6 and 3-3 in 7A-AAAA) by driving in two runs in the top of the seventh and Myra Russell closed out scoring with an RBI in the same frame.

Pitcher Courtney Bailey got the next three batters in order at the bottom of the inning.

Chris Allen, head coach, said although Cass crossed the plate for seven runs, the Lady Colonel batters need to be more efficient.

"We left 11 runners in scoring position," Allen said. "We have to capitalize more on our scoring opportunities, but any win is a good one and we'll take it."

He praised Bailey's pitching, noting she gave up six hits and struck out four.

"She pitched well for us," he said. "She was sharp and maintained a cool head."

Major contributors at the plate were Hood, who was 3-of-4 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs and three stolen bases; Myra Russell, 3-of-4 with a single, double and triple and 2 RBIs; and Nicole Bailey, 2-of-2 with a walk and reaching base twice by being hit -- getting on base a total of five times.

Cass returns to the mound today when it visits Rome in a region matchup.
