Cass won in overtime penalty kicks to take a big region win against Woodland Tuesday night.

The Lady Colonels scored the game's first goal when Allison Storey scored in the 15th minute with an assist from Audrey Nix giving them a 1-0 lead.

Sara Garrett answered for the Lady Wildcats in the 18th minute on a free kick goal and the two teams were knotted at 1-1.

Both defenses took center stage then, not allowing another goal through the second half and two five-minute overtime periods.

Cass won the penalty kick shootout, 4-3, to win 2-1. Scoring goals for Cass in the shootout were Caitlyn Marsala, Nix, Madison Scoggins and Mallary Heddon.

Coach Phil Phillips said goalie Rebecca Strother helped the Cass cause with two blocks on penalty kicks.

He added the win was a good one the Lady Colonels.

"It's always nice to beat your cross county rival," he said. "Coach [Kyle] Morgan has a good team over there. He's like us, he has a young team."

Cass returns to the soccer field Friday when it visits Forsyth Central.

Wooodland next plays Friday, when it entertains South Forsyth.
