Cass tennis splits boys and girls matches

Cass High split its girls and boys matches against Cedartown in tennis play Tuesday at Hamilton Crossing.

The Lady Colonels won their matches, 4-1.

Ryleigh Lanham won 6-1, 6-2 at the singles No. 1 line; Aleigh Beard won 6-3, 6-4 at singles No. 2; and Jessica Franks fell 4-6, 5-7.

At doubles No. 2, Flower Nation and Morgan Mayton lost their first set, 4-6, but came back to win their final two sets, 6-2, 6-1.

At doubles No. 2, Hannah Howard and Callie Dodd overpowered their opponents 6-1, 6-3.

Brooke McDurmon, head coach, noted the Cass victory was based on singles and doubles success.

“Our singles line 1 and 2 pulled out a good win,” she added. “Our line 1 doubles pulled out a tough match.”

Cedartown 3, Cass 2

In boys play at singles line 1, Avery Cornett won 6-1, 6-0, while at line 2, Eric Dunlop fell 1-6, 1-6, and Jacob McBrayer won one set but came up short in the other two as he lost 1-6, 6-2, 0-6.

At doubles line 1 Logan Barrier and Josh Musilli won 6-4, 7-5. At doubles line 2, Caleb Reeves and Seth Colston were shaded, 1-6, 6-7.

Kevin Cunningham, head coach, said the Colonels are improving.

“We took a win at our first line singles and first line doubles,” he said. “We’re a young team and we’re continuing to work hard as we’re making preparations for our region tournament the week after next.”

Cass next plays today against Woodland. The two meet at 4:30 p.m.
