Lee Castro will be the next member of the Adairsville City Council after winning Tuesday’s runoff election.

Castro gained 195 votes, or 55.56 percent of the vote, while Kenneth Carson received 156 votes, which came to 44.44 percent of the vote. In all, 351 votes were cast in the Adairsville race. Castro will represent the council’s Post 3 seat.

“Well, first I want to say that I was completely amazed at how many people came out to the runoff,” Castro said. “I mean, we had almost as many votes as we did in the first election. I’m also excited about all the new voters we got. Both my opponent and I both brought out new voters for municipal elections, and I wanted to say thank you for all the people that came out, braved the weather, to vote for our city.”

Castro and Carson both defeated incumbent Connie Morrow in the Nov. 5 election. At the time, Castro received 120 votes, or 31.75 percent of the vote, while Carson gained 143 votes, or 37.83 percent of the vote. Morrow received 115 votes, or 30.42 percent.

Castro thanked Carson for running a clean race.

“I also want to appreciate Ken Carson for a well-fought, clean campaign and his integrity throughout the entire thing. And I guess the last thing I want to say, this post comes with overalls, so it’s time to get to work,” he said.
