“Our entire board shares my excitement for having someone of Joe’s caliber step in during this interim period,” said Fred Kittle, 2011 Board Chairman. “In addition to being a former board chairman, Joe has been a successful businessman, in both law and insurance, and has been a vital part of this community. He knows the people and history here as well as anyone. We are appreciative that he is willing to take on this interim role.”
Kittle said the interim director will serve in a part-time capacity overseeing day-to-day operations of the organization and working with the board appointed search committee to hire a permanent replacement.
“The chamber of commerce and this community has been a tremendous source of support for me and my family for generations and I feel like God is guiding me to step in and try to fill this void,” Harris said. “I thank the board for the confidence they have shown in me and look forward to working with them and all of the chamber members to move the organization forward during this interim period.”
Harris began his career with Aflac in 2001 and currently serves as Northwest Georgia Regional Sales Coordinator. Prior to joining Aflac, Harris was a partner in Harris and Helton law practice. Harris served as chamber of commerce board chairman during 1997 overseeing the building of the current chamber of commerce facility.
Harris currently serves on Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Shorter College and has previously served the Cartersville and Bartow County community in numerous other capacities. He and his wife, Brooke, live in Cartersville with his two children.
