According to Cartersville Police Department Capt. Mark Camp, the accident occurred in the vicinity of Martin Luther King Drive in Cartersville when a 2-year-old child was hit by a car.
“The child was in the front yard of a residence when someone at the residence backed out of the driveway striking the child, knocking the child under the car,” Camp said in a press release.
The child suffered a severe laceration to the head but, according to EMS, was stable. Cartersville Fire Department Capt. Mitchell Bagley said the child was transported to Kennestone Hospital by ambulance after an air ambulance was called off.
Camp said the relationship between the driver and the child was unknown.

In the early hours of Friday, deputies pursuing a fleeing driver discovered the vehicle was stolen.
About 2:40 a.m. a Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputy reported a Jeep Grand Cherokee passed him on Highway 41 at Fire Tower Road without a working tail light. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, reaching speeds of 120 mph before stopping at 5563 Joe Frank Harris Parkway in Adairsville.
The driver fled on foot while the SUV was still in motion. Deputies were unable to locate the driver.
While searching the vehicle, the deputy located a ringing cellphone. The owner of the vehicle was calling the driver who had fled, stating the man who was driving did not have permission to take the car.
Warrants were taken for the man for defective equipment, driving while unlicensed, fleeing and attempting to elude police, speeding, reckless driving and theft by receiving stolen property.
