A legacy of accomplishment will remain as friends and family mourn the passing of Morrel (Morrell) Perkins.

Transforming the face of Kingston's historic downtown, Perkins, who died Monday at the age of 92, founded Morrell's Corner Cafe in 1996 as he continued to renovate the Railroad Street storefronts.

Renting space and opening additional businesses, Perkins was accomplished in business across Bartow County owning Child's Monument Co. and, for a time, Sunset Memorial Gardens.

"He certainly was one of the driving forces that helped rebuild our downtown and bring in people and create jobs -- and at the time they dedicated a plaque to him and his wife that's still on the restaurant down there which he founded," said Kingston Mayor Ronald Casey. "And he will be greatly missed."
