In the almost two-hour meeting, “the mayor presented several names of potential candidates for selection as interim city manager until a process for selecting a permanent replacement can be determined,” according to minutes kept by City Attorney Boyd Pettit.
Crook’s resignation, for which no letter was available Tuesday, is effective Nov. 25. Calls to Crook seeking comment were not returned as of press time.
Mayor Evan King said Crook accepted the position of city manager with Villa Rica. He added the city council was sorry to see her go.
“At the meeting last night all of them expressed appreciation for the job she’d done, and will continue to do until Nov. 25. We’ve got a lot on our plate here and she’s put a lot of effort into making sure that we’re in a good spot,” he said. “They’re sad to see her go from the comments that I had from those members who were at the city council meeting last night.”
Crook has been city manager since August 2010, when she was appointed to the position after Larry Pratt retired. King praised her work in the following years.
“But she’s done us a fine job here. All of our departments are in compliance with state requirements from a personnel standpoint. Our finances are in better condition. She’s done us a good job. We’re better off having had her here,” King said.
During the executive session, King said the city may begin working with the Georgia Municipal Association to find an interim city manager until a permanent replacement can be found.
“That’s a possibility ... That’s what we’re looking to do,” King said. “That’s what we’d done before when Larry Pratt retired. We got an interim city manager while we do the search process.”
A native of Birmingham, Ala., Crook spent much of her career within the administration of Paulding County. Serving more than 18 years in the Paulding County government, she began as comptroller and finance director before holding the title of county administrator for eight years.
