Group shoplifts from two Kangaroo gas locations

Monday night two convenience stores had items stolen by shoplifters.

The suspects first stopped at the Kangaroo gas station on Highway 20. After distracting the store clerk, one of the four suspects reached behind the counter and took a case of Marlboro light cigarettes valued at $50. The clerk approached the man and the cigarettes were returned before the suspect ran out the door and left in what appeared to be a red Dodge Durango.

An hour later the same suspects stopped at the Kangaroo on Glade Road, again distracting the clerk to take other items. One suspect dropped a bottle of beer, forcing the clerk away from the register area to clean up while pretending to leave the store. The woman stated that three black men then ran behind the counter, grabbing various items, including her purse containing credit cards, $500 cash, ID and prescription medications.

The suspects were described as four black men. One of the men was wearing a light blue shirt, another in jeans and a white tank top and baseball cap. The tag number for the red Dodge Durango is listed as BIX4202.

Man assaulted at beach

Late Monday night a Bartow County deputy responded to a battery and entering auto call at Bartow Beach.

The complainant stated that he was bringing his boat to the dock when he noticed two Hispanic males standing at his truck. One of the males was attempting to steal the stereo and the complainant tried to pull him out of the truck. At that time he was struck in the back of the head with what he believed to be a fist and he fell to the ground.

Both suspects left in a small, red Honda with an unknown tag number.
