Deputies arrest man in motel room robbery

Two woman told Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies Wednesday about 3 a.m. that a man chased them out of a motel room, entered their car and took a purse.

According to the incident report, the women were in a room at Red Roof Inn at 28 Highway 20 Spur in Cartersville with two men, one of whom was asleep.

They said the other man began taking off his clothes, and said, "I'm gonna get a piece of all of you." The women then decided to leave.

As the exited the room, they said Manuel Gonzalez, 38, followed them down the stairs and got into their car. Gonzalez, of 2038 Gober Ave., Smyrna, allegedly took a 23-year-old women's purse and ran back to the hotel room.

Gonzalez them came back to the vehicle and chased the women to the lobby, the women said. He was arrested and charged with robbery.

The purse was recovered from Gonzalez's room.

Man arrested, charged in 2009 sexual assault

Local investigators Monday arrested and charged a Cartersville man in connection with an alleged 2009 rape.

In a press release, Sheriff Clark Millsap said the incident occurred in a Bartow County home in September of that year. The alleged victim was 15 years old at that time.

Cameron Jesse James, 22, of Cartersville, turned himself in to the Bartow County jail and was charged with rape, aggravated child molestation and aggravated sexual battery.

He is currently incarcerated awaiting a Superior Court bond hearing.

Home extensively damaged in fire

No one was home about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when a blaze extensively damaged a home at 427 Road No. 2 S. in Cartersville.

Firefighters say the home is now uninhabitable and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
