Dorothy was born Nov. 13, 1926, in Bartow County to the late Jesse E. Coker and Nora Gilstrap Coker. She began working at EZ Mills in 1944 until she retired in 1988. In 1945, she married the late Charlie E. Dempsey. They were married for 43 years at his death. Dorothy was a member of Peeples Valley Baptist Church for over 50 years. In 1991 she married the late John L. Allison. They were married for six years at his death. She was also preceded in death by her three sisters, Willie Bagwell, Sarah Nichols and Mary Hines; and two brothers, Jim Coker and J.E. Coker Jr.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Battles and Rev. Darrell Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Lamar Guyton of Cartersville; son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Cynthia Dempsey of Cassville; grandchildren, Kelli and Rob McKelvey of Taylorsville, Casey Guyton of Ball Ground, Blake and Marisa Dempsey of Nashville, N.C., and Neill and Samantha Dempsey of Cartersville; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Lorenzoni, Coleston Dempsey, Rylen Dempsey, Drew McKelvey and Baretta Dempsey; brother-in-law, Jack Dempsey of Kingston; brother-in-law, Alsa and Sarah Allison of Cartersville, and sister-in-law, Lola Greene of Cartersville; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Peeples Valley Baptist Church or Georgia Mountains Hospice in her memory.
