Emerson's Planning and Zoning Commission on Thursday night heard a first reading of a rezoning for 50-plus acres.

The 56 acres located near the Department of Transportation and Optimum Technologies on Highway 41 currently sit under a light industrial zoning, but under the request, Paga Mine Properties is asking for a C2-Community Commercial Retail zoning.

Developers do not have specific plans for the site, but have fielded inquiries about the property. According to Ed Brush, representing Paga Mine Properties, all but roughly 4 acres sits in a 100-year floodplain.

Emerson City Council will hold a first reading of the rezoning application at its meeting Monday at 7 p.m. at city hall.

The commission also discussed developing a future land use map and will meet Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. for a work session to begin outlining rules and detailing the map.
