Emerson residents are now able to purchase malt beverages and wine, starting today, after the city council’s approval of the measure.

Approved during the council’s Dec. 10 meeting, following a public hearing, the alcoholic beverages ordinance allows for package sales between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

No residents spoke during the public hearing.

The council also recognized the Bartow County Community Development Department as the Cartersville-Bartow County Metropolitan Planing Organization and approved Emerson joining the organization. By joining the Cartersville-Bartow MPO, Emerson will no longer be part of the Atlanta Regional Commission.

Other items included approving the 2013 municipal court dates and sending the five-year Short Term Work Plan to the county as part of the county-wide work plan submitted to the state. City Manager Kevin McBurnett said there were 40 items, including road projects, contained in the list.

The Emerson City Council’s next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. at city hall.
